Biomanufacturing has ethical and legal issues. Legal issues include federal laws and state laws. Ethical issues concern drugs that cause problems between groups. A big issue used with plants is biopiracy. Conservation can also be another issue with plants. First, an ethical is conservation. Plant species are decreasing every day due to people cutting down trees. This is an ethical issue because we use plants for medical reasons. Many plants are slowly disappearing because there aren’t too many of them. A lot of rare plants are used in medicines. A quarter of our medicine products come from plants and barely any have been tested by scientists. On the other hand, there are legal issues. An example of a legal issue can be biopiracy. Biopiracy is used in cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This is the use for large pharmaceutical companies to show how it works on people. However, instead of discovering things together, some companies discover things on their own without even asking. They make an illegal collection of things, which can destroy species. These companies should be compromising and working things out with the government on how to also give profit to the founder of the treatment. If research is publicly funded rather then privately funded, obligations to the community would change. When research is privately funded, it is only supported by a company, which has nothing to do with the community. However, when it is publicly funded the community would be taxed on all the research that has been done. That way, you would end up getting more money. We decide issues by keeping track of it, through updated files. Anything we discover is written down and kept track of through tables, observations, and graphs. If someone were to try to steal it, we have our property and results copyrighted and dated with valid signatures. There is no arguing with that since we have all the proof that shows it is ours. |
