Biomanufacturing

Biomanufacturing has led to many innovations. For example, the University of Maryland has a center for bioprocess innovation. There, they get to work on miniaturization, biochemical engineering and bioprocess development. Bioprocessing eventually led to the development of biological products. The bioprocess engineers get to interact with living cells. This allows them to make molecules that can’t be made from synthetic chemical processes.

At Utah State University, Dr. Samuel Kaplan joined the Synthetic Bio-Manufacturing Center. Kaplan is an expert in one of the organisms needed in the manufacturing process. The bacterium, Rhodobacter Sphaeroides, gets energy from the sun. It also consumes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This process is a way to produce energy.

Another thing biomanufacturing led to was biomedical innovations. For instance, they created biopharmaceuticals. Biopharmaceuticals are a series of complex drugs that can treat disease. However, the making of it can produce risks to drug quality. Material contamination interferes with this life saving medicine.

Services available to the public include FlexFactory Services. A FlexFactory platform can be Xcellerex, which offers several expert services. These services increase the deployment of biomanufacturing capacity and improve the quality.

We personally think that the members of the biotech community differ in their approach to problem solving due to many reasons. They have to figure out what gene can fit where and if its compatible. Not only that, they have to think outside of the box to actually solve problems. They aren't simple, thinking in the box may be helpful at times but, not always. The members have to come up with formulas, lists, and keep track of all the results. They need to be organized and be able to back track as well. If not they wouldn't be able to correct any errors or mistakes they've made.

The factors that drive technology innovation are being able to produce biological products. They do this by extracting cells from mammals, insects, bacteria, plants, and fungi because we can't produce these products by synthetic chemical processes. They are usually used to make antibodies, enzymes, and other proteins that are needed.
